About WANYAMA
Formerly "The Cleveland Zoo"
Wanyama is an energizing band from Cleveland, Ohio that was formed during the summer of 2009. Playing stimulating reggae and hip-hop music the band started off playing house parties that always got a great turn out. Realizing the talent at hand the group played their first official concert at The Grog Shop in Cleveland Heights opening for reggae group The Movement. Since then Wanyama has played a plethora of shows all over North East Ohio while gaining a steady and ever growing fan base. Every show is filled with excitement, movement and audience involvement making theirs shows a personal experience. While putting a large emphasis on writing original music Wanyama draws influence from artists such as; Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, A Tribe Called Quest,The Roots, Michael Franti and Spearhead, and The Beastie Boys. Wanyama's fusion of Hip-hop and reggae is invigorating and guaranteed to get people up, dancing and having a good time.
Wanyama has shared the stage with the Movement, Carlos Jones and the PLUS band, Deals Gone Bad, Ballyhoo!, Chip tha Ripper, NOMO, Tropidelic, Echo Movement, The Original Wailers, The Meditations, iPhonic and others.
